INTRODUCCION

El problema de la Diabetes Mellitus en nuestro país como en el resto del mundo es sin lugar a dudas el más importante problema de salud que debe afrontar el médico en el momento actual.

No se trata simplemente de pensar en el diabético clásico con su cortejo de comas, insulina, amputaciones o problemas visuales; se trata también de la etiologia del infarto del miocardio y la obesidad muy posiblemente relacionadas con lo que llamamos  Diabetes y que constituyen las mayores causas de mortalidad en esta parte del siglo.
