And in those patients with diabetes who also have periodontal disease, there are adverse effects on glycemic control.</p> <p><strong>Purpose</strong>: The objective of this review is to investigate and analyze the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and its direct relationship with periodontal disease.</p> <p><strong>Methodology</strong>: A search was carried out on the direct relationship of these two pathologies in the Pudmed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, Medline databases of the last 10 years, selecting review articles.</p> <p><strong>Results and conclusions</strong>: A bidirectional relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease was found.
