Abstract
Se revisaron cuidadosamente 52 casos de hipotiroidismo primario con el objeto de conocer sus etiologías, síntomas, signos, datos de laboratorio especiales y conducta terapéutica.
Fue sorprendente la gran incidencia de la enfermedad despues de tiroidectomias subtotales para bocio tóxico o nódulos tiroideos.
Los sintomas principales aislados son inespecificos pars el diagnóstico pero la combinación de fatigabilidad, sensibilidad al frio y abotagamiento facial constituyen una triada sugestiva de esta endocrinopatia.
El signo de mayor valor confirmatorio fue la relajación lenta del reflejo aquileo que adecuadamente explorado y bien interpretado es de extraordinaria importancia clínica. La prueba de laboratorio más definitivamente diagnóstica fue la yodoproteinemia.
Una respuesta satisfactoria se observeó, en todos los pacientes con terapéutica hormonal sustitutiva.
Es apreciable el aumento de la enfermedad en los últimos años posiblemente porque se piensa más en ella, se buscan las formas poco aparentes o sub-clínicas y la mayor ayuda de laboratorio accesible al médico y al paciente.
