La Diabetes Mellitus es una enfermedad muy común; así por ejemplo se considera que en los Estados Unidos existen 3 millones de personas que la sufren. Es conocida desde tiempos muy remotos ya que los Papiros de Ebers la mencionan 3.500 años antes de Cristo.
