Abstract

1. Se presenta estudio preliminar sobre 10.293 parientes de diabéticos, 41% hombres y 59% mujeres de todas las edades, agrupados en 1.039 familias, residentes en Bogotá y representativas de Colombia.
2. En cada individuo se llevó a cabo prueba de tolerancia a la glucosa, mediante sobrecarga de 100 g. administrada por vía oral; se determinaron glicemias a las horas 0:00, 0:30 y 1:00 ; se investigó glicosuria en forma sistemática.
3. Se consideraron como límites superiores normales de glicemia, los siguientes: hora 0:00=95 mg/100ml; hora 0:30=146.9 mg/100 ml; hora 1:00 = 143.9 mg/100 ml.
4. Se halló una prevalencia de diabetes de 6.82% en el grupo total estudiado; muy poco mayor pero estadísticamente significativa en la mujer: 7.16%.
5. Se halló una estricta correlación positiva entre edad y prevalencia de diabetes, con índics de correlación superiores a 0.9000
6. No se halló correlación entre la cercanía del parentesco- máxima igualdad teórica en genes- y prevalencia de diabetes.
7. Las cifras  ± desviación standard de los diversos parámetros, fueron:

  • glicemia a la hora 0:00 = 76.8 ± 15.6 mg/100 ml
  • glicemia a la hora 0:30 = 85.5 ± 20.4 mg/100 ml
  • glicemia a la hora 1:00 = 80.1 ± 17.8 mg/100 ml
  • glicemia hora 0:30/ glicemia hora 0:00 = 1.17 ± 0.24
  • glicemia hora 1:00/ glicemia hora 0:00 = 1.08 ± 0.24
