En 1955 Witebsky y E. Rose N. R., F , confirmaron la facultad antigénica de la Tiroglobulina, como principal antígeno del coloide folicular: también en el coloide se aisló posteriormente el antígeno llamado CA2 -"Second Colloid Antigen", que es considerado como un antígeno específico de especie, pero no de órgano. Belyavin y W. R. Trotter, localizaron el antígeno fijador de complemento en la fracción microsomal de los homogenizados de tiroides, que es un complejo lipotrópico insoluble.
