Con miras a aumentar la certeza diagnóstica y eventualmente a hacerla absoluta a lo largo de la historia de la medicina se han ideado métodos de laboratorio más o menos complejos. En endocrinología el número de dichos métodos es proporcionalmente mayor que en las otras especialidades.
Yo comparto sustancialmente la idea de que "el médico que permite que lo domine un procedimiento de laboratorio, está condenado al desastre", muy especialmente en lo que se refiere a diagnóstico. Lo anterior no quiere decir que la ayuda de un examen de laboratorio adecuado sea innegable en gran número de casos.
