Abstract
Se estudiaron la presencia del foramen parietale y de una escama transparente en 23 especies de reptiles ecuatorianos, tres Teidae, una Sincidae y 19 Iguánidos. A diferencia de algunos otros autores encontramos un foramen parietale y una escama transparente exclusivamente en iguánidos, pero solamente en 12 de las 19 especies estudiadas. Probablemente se trata de un órgano en regresión, y de acuerdo con los autores franceses, diferente de la porción endocrina de la glándula pineal.
