Abstract

hCG is a hormone of pregnancy, useful primarily for diagnosis of pregnancy or gestational pathologies. A significant clinical utility of this hormone occurs in adult men with cancer of germ cells in the testis, where trophoblastic cells have the ability to produce this hormone and raise it in blood at levels similar to those of many stages of gestation. The ? subunit is specific to hCG, which is this measured in blood for diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and the evolution of testicular tumor surveillance. As tumors of the testicle solid neoplastic masses more frequent in young adults with high general potential malignancy, the impact generated by the use of tumor markers is very important. Excessive elevation of hormone generated in the adult male symptoms such as Gynecomastia and hyperthyroidism, and the child precocious puberty. The goal of this review is, by studying cancer of testis and hCG, establishing the usefulness of this hormone as a tumor marker for this cancer.
