Abstract
November 14 marks "World Diabetes Day", the date of birth of Frederick Grant Banting, one of the researchers who isolated and used insulin in 1922, in recognition of the previous work of Nicolae Paulesco.
Diabetes mellitus is one of the main endocrinometabolic problems in the world and is a pathology on the rise that has been known since antiquity, with the consideration that, currently, it is in developing countries where it increases the most, which constitutes a serious public health problem in our region and in Colombia. In addition, due to its incurable nature and the affectation it produces in the vascular, peripheral nervous and immunological systems, the severity in an individual patient suffering from it is high.
