The history of osteoporosis in Colombia dates back to the 80s of the last century, when the author of this editorial note, returned from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota to perform a postdoctoral fellowship in bone metabolism, the first study group of this pathology was created at the Hospital San Juan de Dios de Bogota, through seminars and study groups, In addition to doctors, both teachers and residents of this university health care center, doctors from the Instituto Materno Infantil, Instituto Nacional de Cancerología, Fundación Santafé de Bogota and Instituto Nacional de Salud attended these seminars and study groups, and a specialized consultation on calcium and phosphorus metabolism disorders was created. the "consultation of the porous bone", which the auxiliary nurse who administered the consultation called in a funny way.
