Abstract
The immune system is a complex network of cells and proteins protecting against infection. The innate response is carried out largely by phagocytes and complement proteins, whereas acquired immunity is based on a specialized cellular and humoral response involving T and B cells. The two systems are closely interconnected and operated on synergistically in the fight against pathogenic invaders.
