Abstract

Nine years have passed since the rebirth of the publication of the Colombian Journal of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (ACE), the official organ for the dissemination of knowledge in various areas of endocrinology. We have advanced in the indexing process, appearing in 6 systems (Dialnet, DOAJ, Latindex, ROAD, ProQuest and part of Clarivate), with which we have achieved greater online visibility and positioning, not only in Latin America but also internationally, since there are few journals specialized in the subject. The participation of international peers in the arbitration has allowed us to build alliances with related scientific societies in order to continue cultivating academic excellence and fulfill the mission of providing continuing medical education to health professionals.

One of the proposals made by the board of directors of the Colombian Association of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism in the period from 2023 to 2025 is to continue cultivating cooperative alliances with related scientific associations in topics that we handle jointly, with multidisciplinary knowledge contributions. In this regard, I have recently had the opportunity to participate in an alliance with the Argentine Lipid Society (SAL), the Colombian Society of Cardiology (SCC) and the Colombian Association of Internal Medicine (ACMI), with the main objective of creating a Colombian alliance for the study and management of lipids, taking into account the impact of LDL cholesterol as the main cardiovascular risk factor. Furthermore, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD) accounts for more than 85% of deaths of cardiovascular origin and three quarters of these deaths occur in middle and low-income countries, making it a public health problem, and it is essential to reach agreements for the timely diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemias.
