En la coexistencia de Diabetes Mellitus y Cáncer se halla considerable número de puntos de interés, en todos los niveles,  desde el molecular y el mitocondrial hasta el psicosocial.

Por ejemplo, está aún por determinar si un tipo dado de sarcomas —probablemente los más pertinentes los fibrosarcomas—, son capaces de producir substancias similares a la insulina en cuanto a efectos sobre glucosa-glicógeno-glucosa se refiere; o si simplemente producen sub-unidades de aminoácidos peptídicamente unidos, las cuales tendrían el carácter de Precursoras de moléculas mayores con acción similar a la insulina; o si podrían almacenar o retener insulina de proveniencia pancreática, unida o no a proteínas del plasma, para luego liberarla en grandes cantidades.
