Abstract
Introduction: Cardiovascular disease accounts for 31% of global deaths and 30% of mortality in Colombia. Tolima has the highest mortality rate from ischaemic heart disease (184.9 vs. 155.3 nationally per 100,000 inhabitants), meaning that traditional prevention strategies face accessibility limitations.
Objective: To design an exploratory base in a specialised centre to create a technological tool for the surveillance and prevention of cardiovascular disease in Ibagué 2025.
Methods: cross-sectional study in a specialised centre in Ibagué, 2025. A total of 137 participants (90% CI; 5% error) were selected using non-probabilistic sampling. A validated instrument was developed through systematic review, with five sections.
Results: sample: 68.6% women, 50.4% over 50 years of age. Prevalence of risk factors: hypertension (22.6%), diabetes (19%) and dyslipidaemia (43.1%). 75.2% complied with physical activity recommendations, 8.8% were smokers. 97.8% expressed willingness to use mobile applications for cardiovascular prevention. Preferred functionalities: blood pressure monitoring (29.9%) and medication reminders (28.5%). Main barriers: difficulty of use (51.8%) and lack of functional knowledge (29.2%).
Discussion: This study showed a favourable willingness to use mobile applications for cardiovascular prevention, suggesting a feasible scenario for future research. Limitations: Non-representative sample from a specialised private institution. Instrument with low internal reliability (?<0.40). Results not generalisable to the general population
Conclusions: In this specialised sample, a favourable attitude towards mobile applications (97.8%) was observed, which requires validation with robust instruments and representative sampling.
