History of the Colombian Association of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism

Abstract

Introduction: Founded in 1950, the Colombian Association of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (ACE) celebrates its 72nd anniversary and is positioned as one of the most solid and successful scientific associations in Colombia, which bases its actions on the development of three strategic pillars: Academic leadership, empowerment of patient communities and participation in public policy decisions involving the specialty.

Contents: This article describes, chronologically, all the work of the ACE throughout its 72 years of operation, highlighting its nominal and statutory modifications, the development of its uninterrupted academic events, congresses, national and international courses, symposia, seminars and, recently, all the digital strategies of dissemination in medical education, the creation of the Colombian Journal of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the formation of its chapters and the support of its members to the development of the different academic training programs in the specialty.

Conclusions: ACE has been recognized in the medical community as one of the associations with the best achievements and has entered into modernity by strengthening itself in the virtual modality, with the objective of benefiting the community of health professionals and especially the patients as much as possible.
